about

I had moved back to Boston in August 2021 and 3 months went by without me being able to write a single line for a song, poem or anything creative. Then @lewisizdope sent me this instrumental and all the words poured out like a flood.

lyrics

This not art rap, it's an instant classic
If you miss this masterpiece, then you missed some magic

The city said welcome home, you won't be greeted with open arms
Just arms in the open of palms hoping you bomb
and fail the test, thought I could cope with the daily stress
But I broke, it was Allah's way to keep me in check
Please speak direct and connect to the feeling of being starved
I passed cops in Grove Hall doing they job
And harassing us, not exempt from something hazardous
I try to speak life, they subtract ghetto calculus
I hate it here, objects in the mirror, closer than they appear
Almost died 3 times in 3 months since I made it here
I'll make it clear, something's conspiring to kill me
Looking dead in the face, you wanna grill me
I'm dead inside already, you can't feel me
Numbing all my pain and my joy, what's the real thing
It's hard to recognize
And I don't know if I'll be fine, but I'll try

I mastered pain because I mastered my thoughts, that's a lie
Cause I laugh at the things that make most men cry
Shots fly in the air, no emotion to em
From the other side of the grave, he motions to 'em
Not afraid of death when you hangin with em so often
When I die, don't bury my dreams in a coffin
Ideas survive and mine were as big as they come
I'm trying to make it 40, not the .40 drum
Nobody owe me none, and I'll die debt free
These words came from the Lord, Respectfully
Lessons learned from the other side, The funk of death
Two step to the left til he hit the slide, no skipping steps
You trippin, I put all my feelings in my writtens
I know I'm blessed, just look at this life I was given
By controlling my intention
I put myself in this position
To win
My desire is to do it all again

Open the gates for the flood, can't shut it off until I'm done
In the board room from the mud, I'm as real as they come
My lyrics not on Genius, they belong in museums
Or mausoleums, wisdom straight from Imhuronlysun
Golden flows, God's son, raps disciple, I'm a Buddha
My kids call me a teacher, I'm forever a student
You rap for clout, that amusing, I'm rhyming for self-improvement
Lewis, for real, What are we doin
The textbooks can't teach you how to lead a movement
You can't fake the funk, if you the one, then prove it
From the corner to corner office, I don't have to code switch
I'm a CEO, and 10 years ago, I was homeless
No cosigner, I negotiated every deal
I might become a rap star without a record deal
Tell Guru I made it, I got Mass Appeal
And tell Nas to sign me to a massive deal

This not art rap, it's an instant classic
If you miss this masterpiece, then you missed some magic
This not art rap, it's an instant classic
If you miss this masterpiece, then you missed some magic
